Leo Winter is a micro mechanic and watchmaker that has managed to produce a batch of watches from the armor plating of a Russian tank destroyed by the Ukrainian Armed Forces in the eastern Donetsk region. The proceeds from the sale of his watches will go towards helping Ukrainian children who have lost one or both parents as a result of the war, who are taken care of by the Children of Heroes Charity Fund.
Winter plans to produce a batch of 55 watches, the first of which will go to the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyy. The product’s name is Ctrl-Z, which is a reference to the “undo” function on a keyboard and the Z code used by the Russian military. The cost of each watch is €7,500.
According to Winter, his idea stems from the notion of turning a piece of evil into good. They are meant to be a wearable symbol of peace. Through the sale of his watches, the destroyed Russian military equipment used against Ukrainians will benefit children affected by the war.
The company plans to produce another series of watches using materials sourced from Ukraine. “My watches showcase design and craftsmanship on both the front and back. The watches symbolize strength, hope, and support,” Winter describes his initiative.
